Texas primarily observes the Central Time Zone (CT), with cities like Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio using UTC-6:00 during Standard Time and UTC-5:00 during Daylight Saving Time (DST). However, a small part of far west Texas, including El Paso, falls under the Mountain Time Zone (MT), with UTC-7:00 during Standard Time and UTC-6:00 during DST. DST observance varies by location within the state.
Note that the start and end dates of daylight saving time can change
History
Texas introduced its first two area codes, 214 and 713, in 1947. Rapid population growth led to numerous area code splits in the mid-20th century. By the late 1990s, area code overlays became common, requiring residents to dial the area code for local calls. As of my last update in September 2021, Texas had multiple area codes, reflecting its growth and diverse regions.
